The African Art Hub (TAAH) is pleased to announce its participation in the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in New York, showcasing a curated exhibition titled ‘Fractured Memories, Shattered Silences’ at Booth 23. This thought-provoking presentation brings together four talented artists from Africa – Ibrahim Bamidele, Reggie Khumalo, Sebastien Boko, and Ayogu Kingsley – to explore the intersections of memory, identity, and cultural heritage in the African diasporic experience.

Inspired by Marianne Hirsch's concept of Postmemory (1997), this exhibition invites viewers to engage with the postmemories of the African diasporic experience, reflecting on the complex relationships between memory, history, and culture. The exhibition concept is also informed by the theoretical frameworks of Andreas Huyssen's Present Pasts (2003) and Dominick LaCapra's Writing History, Writing Trauma (2001), emphasizing the importance of understanding the intricate dynamics between memory, history, and culture.

Through a diverse range of mix media, including painting and installation, the four featured artists offer distinct perspectives on the African diasporic experience. Ibrahim Bamidele reconstructs history, placing African identity where it was once erased. Reggie Khumalo reimagines the African movement, celebrating the modern African traveler as a symbol of autonomy and exploration. Ayogu Kingsley probes the complexities of Black identity, memory, and resilience, challenging traditional representations and offering a fresh perspective on the African experience. Sebastien Boko, through his sculptural works, explores the intersections of identity, power, and cultural heritage, inviting viewers to contemplate the complexities of human experience.

Fractured Memories, Shattered Silences promises to be a thought-provoking and visually stunning exhibition that will resonate with audiences long after they leave the gallery. The African Art Hub is proud to present this exhibition at the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in New York, a premier platform for showcasing contemporary African art.
