The African Art Hub (TAAH) is excited to unveil its latest exhibition, "Beneath The Stars, Where Dreams Take Flight," at the 12th edition of the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, running from October 10-13, 2024, at Somerset House, London. This exhibition will feature a collection of works by renowned artists Houda Terjuman, Gbemileke Adekunle, and Reggie Khumalo, each exploring themes of migration, cultural heritage, and human connection through their distinctive styles.
The exhibition's title, "Beneath The Stars, Where Dreams Take Flight," reflects the powerful narratives of migration and belonging, inviting viewers to explore how these artists traverse their personal and collective histories. Each artist presents a unique perspective on the profound impact of cultural identity, memory, and the shared experiences that bind humanity together.

Houda Terjuman draws from her migrant background to create poetic sculptures and paintings that embody the fragility and strength of those who live between worlds. Her pieces use symbolism—such as stars and bridges—to evoke the complex emotions of
displacement and hope, offering a deeply personal exploration of identity and resilience.
Gbemileke Adekunle takes the viewer on an introspective journey through his vibrant canvases. His work, characterized by layers of acrylic, oil pastel, and charcoal, captures the solitude and reflection that accompany the exploration of one’s cultural roots. Adekunle’s art acts as a visual diary, guiding the audience through moments of deep thought and emotional
connection.

Reggie Khumalo brings a dynamic energy to the exhibition with his bold compositions. His practice fuses tradition and modernity, reflecting his journey as both an artist and philanthropist. Khumalo’s use of vivid colors and intricate patterns creates a harmonious
blend of Africa’s past and present, weaving together stories of heritage and contemporary life.

As visitors move through the exhibition, they will experience a diverse array of artistic expressions, from the dreamlike quality of Terjuman’s sculptures to the introspective richness of Adekunle’s paintings and the vibrant rhythm of Khumalo’s works. Together, these
pieces offer a meditative reflection on migration, belonging, and the ongoing search for identity in an ever-changing world.

The artworks are distinguished not only by their technical mastery but also by the powerful narratives they convey. Each brushstroke, texture, and hue offers a gateway into the artists’ personal experiences and emotions, inviting viewers to reflect on their own journeys and the broader human condition.

Beneath The Stars, Where Dreams Take Flight transcends its visual appeal, becoming a space for contemplation and dialogue. It asks the audience to engage with the complexities of migration, cultural memory, and human connection—topics that resonate deeply in today’s global context.  Through these artists’ works, TAAH aims to amplify African voices on the world stage, contributing to a greater understanding and appreciation of contemporary African art.
